Awards

BioGrads awards (currently $400 maximum) are provided to its members to defray the cost of conducting research and attending scientific meetings. Eligible members may receive one (1) award per fiscal year (August 01 — July 31).

Eligibility

1. Must have attended 1/2 of held BioGrads general meetings in the year prior to applying.
2. Must have 4 fundraising/volunteer points since their last award and in the year prior to applying.
3. Research or travel must occur during the current BioGrads fiscal year (01 August 2022 –31 July 2023).
4. Not have received an award in the current fiscal year

EXAMPLE: Arya applies for an award on January 13, 2023. She must have attended at least two of the BioGrads meetings between January 2022 – January 2023. Arya received a BioGrads award in July 2021 (previous fiscal year) that used all of her points, so she must have volunteered at least 4 times (i.e. 4 points) since then to be eligible for an award on January 2023.
 

Requesting Award

If you meet all eligibility requirements to receive an award and would like to request the funds, download and complete the Award Request Form and email/deliver it to the current Treasurer, or BioGrads mailbox in LSB 107. If you leave it in the mailbox please email biograds@lsu.edu to let us know you submitted an award request. 

 

Follow Up

If you received an award since the last BioGrads Symposium, you will be required to present at the next BioGrads Symposia. If you will not be in Baton Rouge during the symposium, you will be required to submit a 1-page project summary of the research conducted/presented using the received award. Note: Graduating students will not be required to present/write-up.
